The New York Giants looked about as bad as it gets in the NFL last week. After losing to the Minnesota Vikings 28-6, many Giants fans thought it would be a long season.
However, at the beginning of their Week 2 game against the Washington Commanders, the team showed a glimmer of hope. New York did this by snapping a terrible team scoring drought. Read below to find out more.
Devin Singletary Scores New York Giants’ First Opening Drive TD in 27 Games
The New York Giants’ opening drive was arguably their most productive in 1.5 years. That is because the Giants scored a touchdown on their opening drive for the first time in 27 games. This snapped the longest active streak in the NFL.
If that was not enough, Devin Singletary was the man to score the touchdown that broke this streak. For those of you who do not know, the Giants signed this running back during the offseason after letting their face of the franchise, RB Saquon Barkley, walk in free agency. It is safe to say the new era at the running back position is starting off on a good note.
Revenge for Saquon Barkley
Barkley’s departure certainly left Giants fans feeling sour. This is especially the case considering he had about as good of a debut for the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1 as a running back could get. Barkley had 132 total yards and three total touchdowns in a victory over the Green Bay Packers.
This resulted in many Giants fans questioning roster decisions made in the offseason. Now, at least the Giants have an answer to that performance to start Week 2.
New York Giants Moving Forward
The Giants are playing what could be a critical game against the Washington Commanders. Both teams are 0-1 and are looking up to their two other division rivals. That is because the Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys both had convincing Week 1 victories.
New York’s early touchdown allowed them to take an early 6-3 lead over Washington. Since then, the Commanders have managed to tie the football game. However, considering the Giants scored six points total in their Week 1 loss to the Vikings, this has to be looked at as a step in the right direction for New York. We will have to see if they can pull off a surprising road win over their division rival.
