The New York Giants are looking to improve this season after finishing with a 6-11 record a season ago. One of the biggest battles in camp for the Giants will be the wide receiver position. For now, Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, and Wan’Dale Robinson will be the starting wide receivers.
Jalin Hyatt, Allen Robinson II, and Isaiah McKenzie will be the second-unit wide receivers. After those six players, Isaiah Hodgins, Gunner Olszewski, and Miles Boykin will look to snag a seventh wide receiver spot on the New York Giants roster.
There will be a lot of competition on the roster heading into camp. The New York Giants may be forced to make some moves at the wide receiver position before the start of the 2024 season.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox Urges the New York Giants To Sign Former Second-Round Pick Wide Receiver Michael Thomas
Michael Thomas has spent his entire NFL career with the New Orleans Saints. He was a former second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and played college football at Ohio State. Thomas was released earlier this offseason and some teams are interested in signing him.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report thinks that the New York Giants should sign him. Knox said about the Giants adding Thomas to the roster:
“Nabers should quickly emerge as Jones’ new No. 1 target, and the Giants have some intriguing young options in Wan’Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt. It would behoove New York to throw a few more darts at the receiver position, however, to ensure that it has a high-level receiving corps this season.
That’s why the Giants should take a flier on former New Orleans Saints standout Michae Thomas. Injuries have derailed a once-electrifying career, but the 31-year-old proved that he can still contribute last season. He had 39 catches for 448 yards and a touchdown in 10 games.
Thomas is still a 6’3″, 212-pound pass-catcher and a terrific route-runner. He could immediately slot in as a reliable possession receiver who complements the rest of New York’s offense. And given his recent struggles, he should be open to a team-friendly contract.”
Michael Thomas has been dealing with injuries over the past couple of years. He is not the same player he once was. If Thomas was signed to the roster, the New York Giants would most likely have to trade Darius Slayton in this situation.
It would not make sense for the New York Giants anyway, because the wide receiver room is too crowded. Also, the plans for the receiver room by the end of the season is to have Malik Nabers, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Jalin Hyatt as the top receiving options for quarterback Daniel Jones or a different quarterback.
