There’s no denying Daniel Jones has been horrendous for the New York Giants early this season. For franchise great Tiki Barber, though, the solution to their quarterback problem may come during the 2025 NFL draft.
The Giants faced yet another defeat against the Dallas Cowboys, raising concerns about Jones’ development as their quarterback. Despite a closer score of 20-15, the Giants have now lost 14 of their last 15 meetings with Dallas. While Jones completed 72.5% of his passes for 281 yards, the fact remains that the team failed to score a single touchdown.
Jones has shown improvement in recent weeks, averaging 67.6% completion with four touchdowns and only one interception over his last three games. However, the Giants are struggling to convert this efficiency into wins, with a record of 1-3 for the season. This inconsistency is frustrating for both fans and Jones, who faced questions after the game despite a solid individual performance.
Although he led five scoring drives, none resulted in touchdowns, which is unacceptable for any quarterback. The running game also faltered, averaging just 1.1 yards per carry against a weak rushing defense. Jones frequently underthrew open receivers, missing opportunities that could have shifted the game in the Giants’ favor.
New York Giants Get Intriguing 2025 NFL Draft Quarterback Prediction From Franchise Great Tiki Barber
Jones’ inability to play well enough for the Giants has drawn a lot of negative takes from fans and critics alike. For Barber, though, New York must look to the 2025 NFL Draft for a solution. His suggestion can be seen in an an article DJ Siddiqi wrote for Responsible Gambler.
“I don’t think in the high rounds of the draft,” Barber says when asked if the Giants will draft a new quarterback in the first or second round. “Free agency is going to be interesting next year with some of these quarterbacks that could become available. I do think if the Giants are bad – like first overall pick bad – they’ll target a quarterback, because that means that all things have gone wrong,” Siddiqi wrote.
The 2025 NFL Draft is shaping up with exciting early projections, highlighting top prospects like Carson Beck, Quinn Ewers, and Shedeur Sanders among the first selections. Teams like the Giants and New England Patriots are looking to strengthen their rosters, focusing on key positions such as quarterback, offensive tackle, and defensive needs as the college football season progresses.
If the Giants hope to turn their season around, Jones must find ways to convert potential into points and elevate his performance in crucial moments. Otherwise, New York may have to listen to Barber and find his replacement in next year’s draft.
