The New York Giants are hoping that their 2024 NFL season is a great deal more successful than their 2023 one. A plethora of injuries to key offensive starters, such as starting quarterback Daniel Jones, limited them severely on the field. After finishing 6-11 and getting the sixth overall pick in the draft, New York is hopeful that a healthier team will lead to more success.
With that sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Giants selected wide receiver Malik Nabers out of LSU. With Jones healthy and Darius Slayton already on the roster, New York is already poised to have a better passing game than they did last season.
One big question that remains, though, is how good their tight end position will be this season as clouds of uncertainty surround former Pro Bowler Darren Waller.
New York Giants Tight End Darren Waller Is Expected to Retire
Earlier today, it was reported that Giants tight end Darren Waller is likely going to retire before New York begins mandatory mini camp.

Last season, Waller was the Giants’ leading receiver until he got hurt. He finished the year with 52 receptions for 552 yards and one touchdown.
Waller has been dealing with hamstring injuries for the past two seasons, and struggled to stay healthy when he played with the Raiders. Recently, Waller questioned his own commitment to football and stated that he may choose to focus on his mental health and other passions.
It is worth noting that Waller and his wife, WNBA star Kelsey Plum, recently filed for divorce. Waller dropped an auto-tune music video about the breakup late last week.
NFL Fans React to the News that New York Giants Tight End Darren Waller May Retire
Waller is definitely going through a tough time in his life, and it is understandable that the physical and mental toll of another NFL season may be too much for him.
Yet, the reactions to the news that he is leaning towards retirement were mixed with fans that are truly sympathetic to him and those that may not care:

Obviously, many of the reactions poke fun at his music video, which was very difficult to listen to:
Hopefully everything works out for him and he can get into a better mental space.
