The New York Giants could be about to get star wide receiver Malik Nabers back on the field.
Wednesday, Giants head coach Brian Daboll revealed that Nabers has taken steps in the concussion protocol, and will be back on the practice field with his teammates this week. With a caveat.
“Good progress where he’s able to come out here today and practice, he’ll have a red jersey on,” Daboll told reporters.
The Giants have traditionally had players wear read non-contact jerseys in practice as they near a return to being cleared to be a full participant in practice, so they won’t get hit during the practice session.
“But he passed some of the steps that he needed to do,” Daboll explained. “He’s better, which is a good thing. So, we’ll see. We’ll go through today. I’m optimistic, but I’m not going to push anything. That type of injury you want to be smart with. But he is doing much better and it’ll be good to have him out here at practice today.”
Nabers has been sidelined since suffering a concussion during a Week 4 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, but still leads the team with 386 receiving yards.
It remains to be seen if Nabers will be available for the Giants this weekend, when New York hosts the division rival Philadelphia Eagles.
