The New York Giants are starting over at the quarterback position in 2025. After parting ways with Daniel Jones in 2024, and resigning Tommy DeVito earlier this offseason, New York is setting itself up to select their quarterback of the future in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, like many teams now, they are interested in having a veteran who can start so that their rookie is not rushed into game play too early.
For weeks, the Giants have been reported to be interested in various aging veterans who have had successful NFL careers. Most notably, Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers have been in contact with the organization.
But on Friday, they signed someone else.
The New York Giants Have Signed Quarterback Jameis Winston
Jameis Winston, who spent the 2024 season with the Cleveland Browns, announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he was signing with the Giants:

Last season, Winston appeared in 12 games (started five of them) for Cleveland, completing 61.1% of his passes for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and an 80.6 passer rating.
And while he may not be the most accomplished quarterback, he is a veteran who can provide leadership and knowledge to whatever future pick New York brings in.
But while NFL insider Mike Garafolo says this signing does not take the Giants out of the hunt for Rodgers, New York fans, for the moment, are ecstatic that they have someone other than the controversial former Green Bay Packers and New York Jets star on their roster.
New York Giants Fans Are Thrilled to Have Jameis Winston, and Not Aaron Rodgers
Winston is over a decade younger than Rodgers and, to be honest, is a great deal less of a polarizing figure. Giants fans took to social media to express their delight with the signing:

As mentioned, this does not affect their pursuit of Rodgers. However, it also does not affect their plan to draft a quarterback of the future.
It is entirely possible that the Giants go into the season with Rodgers, Winston, and the future of the franchise on the roster.
