Schoen was on the phone with Carolina Panthers President Of Football Operations and General Manager Dan Morgan. They are very good friends. Schoen said on the phone to Morgan:
“Why do we need to add on a seventh, Dan? You and I are going to be doing this a long time, hopefully. And we got to have allies. I don’t want to throw in a seventh. Like, I need players, too. We’re picking six; you guys would be picking one. Let’s just do what we said on the last one. That works out. We met you in the middle with some of your demands.”
This was the final preparation for the Brian Burns trade that sent him to the Giants for draft picks. When the trade was completed, the New York Giants were thrilled to be bringing Burns to the team.
At one time, the Carolina Panthers were offered two first-round picks for Brian Burns from the Los Angeles Rams, but Carolina denied the offer. The Giants did not give up a first-round pick in the trade for Burns. It will be interesting to see what else unfolds during the third episode.
Talks did begin during the first episode. It was a very long process and it continued to be discussed amongst Joe Schoen and the Giants coaches during the second episode. In the end, the New York Giants knew that they needed help on the defensive side of the football.
A pairing of Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns this season should make the Giants’ defense better. It also helps that they have Dexter Lawrence on the defensive line.
