If you thought that there was nothing more that could make the New York Giants’ week worse than it is now….then you would, sadly, be very wrong.
The New York Giants’ Season Has Not Started To Plan
After starring in the surprisingly electric debut season of Hard Knocks’ “Offseason” programme, the New York Giants fell 28-6 at home to the Sam Darnold-led Minnesota Vikings in the season opener.
Unsurprisingly, the Giants saw a very negative backlash on social media to getting blown out in a game that was supposed to be close. Moreover, starting quarterback, Daniel Jones put together another lacklustre performance, completing just 52% of his passes for no touchdowns and 2 interceptions against what is on paper one of the league’s weakest secondaries.
In fact, this extends the former Duke man’s record to a miserly 1-6 since signing his $160 million deal (still bewildering to type) back in March 2023 – one that, at this rate, ranks only behind Deshaun Watson’s fully guaranteed $230 million deal as the worst for an active quarterback in the league.
His uninspiring performance on Sunday even led many media members to suggest the Giants bench their starting man in favor of newly acquired free agent and backup, Drew Lock.
Daniel Jones Could Be In For A Long, Hard Season
However, the attacks on Jones are likely to have only begun, unless he manages to find a way to recapture his impressive 2022 form in which he lead the Giants to a 10-7 record and a divisional round win over; ironically; the Minnesota Vikings.
For now, though Jones haters will have to settle for him catching strays from opposing edge rushers, one of which shone some pretty poor light over the 6th year starter’s play.

Jonathan Greenard Embarrases The Giants’ Offense In Brutal Chide
Now, I will prefice this with the fact that it seems like Greenard; who received a reasonable 4 year, $76 million deal after some good, but perhaps not quite elite years with the Houston Texans; did not mean to intentionally inflict emotional damage to Daniel Jones and the rest of head coach, Brian Daboll’s offense.
However, this is a pretty damning statement, especially coming from a team that is not exactly considered to be a world beater; their over/under season win total going into this year was a mere 6.5. Greenard’s comments came on the “Power Trip Morning Show”, where he stated:
“We kind of started to feel a little bit bad for him as we’re still just completely taking away everything he wants to do.
Hey, it’s good to be on the other side of it , and it’s our job to not be on that side.”
Pretty indicting comments indeed.
In fact, this is not even the first indignity the much-maligned Jones has suffered this season. Sauce Gardner, 2 x All Pro cornerback for the New York Jets, gave a very tepid response when asked about his thoughts on the Giants starting QB during training camp joint practices, evidently struggling to come up with nice specificities to compliment Jones.
Can DJ turn it around? Perhaps. If not, he could certainly find himself out of a job within the next 12 months – or less.
