The New York Giants need to figure out what they are going to be doing at the quarterback position next season. They have had a hard time trying to replace Eli Manning.
They tried with Daniel Jones, but Jones was not the quarterback that they had hoped for. He was released during the middle of last season. Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito, and Tim Boyle were the other quarterbacks on the New York Giants roster last season.
ESPN’s Jordan Raanan Makes Latest New York Giants Quarterback Update At the NFL Scouting Combine
ESPN’s Jordan Raanan covers the New York Giants. He is at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, Indiana. There is a ton of offseason news that is going to be getting released this week. Raanan said on his Twitter page on Wednesday morning:
“It’s pretty clear after a couple days in Indianapolis that the Giants top priority at quarterback is Matthew Stafford. See what happens with him and the Rams and move on from there.”
Interestingly, the New York Giants want to go after a 37-year-old quarterback and worry about the short-term rather than focusing on the long-term. The Giants were 3-14 this past season. New York may also draft a quarterback with the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Which tells me they don’t love any of the QBs at the top of the draft. Stafford as a stop gap for a few years until they find the right guy. Nothing wrong with it. Get one of these defensive guys at top of draft.

I think Stafford is a good move, within reason.
As long as they overpay for him, via draft capital or contract length and value, I’d be cool with it.

$50 mil and most likely draft assets for an older qb, with neck concerns, who will most likely not play every game this season because of the OL and who may also be done with the team after one season. I don’t like it. We are more than just a qb away and we need every pick

So he’s not worried about building a team for the long haul, he’s trying to save his job. I don’t blame him for self-preservation, but I did not want my GM operating out of fear.

There are a lot of New York Giants fans who would not want Joe Schoen to trade for Matthew Stafford, especially if it is for the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Some fans believe that he is a desperate general manager. They also believe that Schoen should not be the general manager of this football team and that he is way over his head.
