New York Giants offensive tackle Evan Neal has had a very bad start to his NFL career. Against the New York Jets in the preseason on Saturday, he gave up more sacks at the tackle position against the Jets backups and also got injured again.
The good news is that Neal’s injury isn’t serious, but it appears as if he is overwhelmed at right tackle. The former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive lineman was the seventh overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and he appears to be a bust at this point in his NFL career.
New York Giants Fans React To Evan Neal’s Horrible Performance
The Giants fanbase once again responded on Twitter to how bad Neal was on Saturday in the preseason against the New York Jets. This is what some of them had to say on Twitter:
Assuming Evan Neal turns out to be a bust (especially given his draft position), I don’t put it on the GM or coach. Everything said “10+ year starter at Tackle” from both the tape from AL and his Combine results. Not sure he can even be a serviceable G at this point.

Schoen hasn’t done much better.
Drafted Evan Neal, re-signed Jones, missed on JMS, poor midround draft results, still struggling with cap space issues. Overall roster still full of question marks.— Rick Preato (@nygjupiter) August 26, 2024
The needs fit the value on every pick. Evan Neal is a missed opportunity in development but not in an eye for talent. He was considered a can’t miss prospect by the majority. Coaches just couldn’t develop him https://t.co/38xkamg37W

It is interesting that the Giants fired Bobby Johnson as offensive line coach in the offseason and brought in Camren Bricillo as the new offensive line coach. Bricillo has done a good job with the other parts of the offensive line. Maybe Neal is just not a good football player at all.
A Move To Guard Feels Like His Last Chance
It appears as if Neal is not going to work out as an offensive tackle in the NFL. Many thought he was going to be a star in the league. Even if the Giants did not draft him, someone else was going to draft him right away. Neal just happened to not work out at tackle for whatever reason.
Moving him to guard might be the best bet for him in the long term. Jermaine Eluemunor will be the starting right tackle for the Giants this season. He was signed as a free agent. Eluemunor played for the Las Vegas Raiders last year. Evan Neal should not see another snap at tackle ever again. The coaching staff needs to move him to either left guard or right guard.
If they can’t get him to do that, maybe they could trade him. Some New York Giants fans want him to be cut from the 53-man roster by Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline.
