New York Giants All-Pro defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence has had just about enough of losing.
Lawrence and the Giants have done plenty since the standout defensive lineman was chosen in the first-round of the 2019 NFL Draft, with only one season above .500 under his belt to date.
As the Giants look to avoid a dubious 0-3 start to the 2024 campaign, Lawrence vented his frustrations over the mounting losses and disappointment the franchise continues to weather.
“It’s gonna get better, obviously. Right now it’s just rough,” Lawrence told reporters this week. “I’m pissed because I hate losing with a passion. I take that hard, losing. I really don’t like it. It’s just something that I’m not going to keep accepting. I want to see this team grow and be as good as we put on throughout the week in practice. It’s just that one day, that Sunday or that Thursday or whatever day. We’ve got to show up.”
Lawrence isn’t the only Giant to call on his teammates to circle the wagons.
Earlier this week, Giants first-round rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers implored his teammates to keep a positive attitude and working towards righting the ship.
“You’ve got to keep your head down, work a little bit harder,” Nabers told reporters following Wednesday’s practice. “Stay together with the people in this locker room and stay together as a team.”
Lawrence already has seven tackles and one sack through the Giants’ first two games, and has over the past two seasons solidified his reputation as one of the game’s most disruptive linemen.
However, with as much as the Giants have at stake in general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll’s third seasons at the helm of the organization, New York is going to need to start winning to stave off potentially franchise altering changes this offseason.
Lawrence says that he intends to stick to the plan and try to improve each day to do his part to turn things around.
“It sucks you’ve got to wait a whole week just to get back on the field after a tough loss like that. I enjoy the process. I know I’m going to do everything I’ve got to do to get myself ready to play,” Lawrence said.
