New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton has been in this position before.
As the NFL’s November 5 trade deadline quickly approaches, Slayton has been speculated to be a player potentially on the move.
Given the need at wide receiver currently facing teams such as the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets, among others, combined with the emergence of Giants star rookie receiver Malik Nabers, there’s a chance Slayton could be on the move.
New York Giants WR Darius Slayton Opens up About Possibility of Being Traded
The 27-year-old with 230 career catches addressed the rumors head-on earlier this week.
“It’s not the first time in my career I’ve been a trade deadline topic,” the 27-year-old said (via Ryan Novozinsky of NJ.com). “It’s probably like the third or fourth time. It’s nothing I haven’t been through before. Obviously all those other times, I still remained here. As for now, I expect that to happen once again — that I’ll be here.”
This trade deadline could telegraph the direction the Giants take in future years, especially given the uncertainty surrounding quarterback Daniel Jones’ future.
If Giants general manager Joe Schoen (who didn’t draft Slayton) views the potential draft capital New York could acquire in a trade more valuable than any snaps Slayton could give the offense this season or if the franchise hopes to involve Jalin Hyatt more significantly into the offense, it may make a trade this time around more likely.
Through his first five-plus seasons, Slayton has caught 230 passes for 3,446 yards with 19 receiving touchdowns.
