The New York Giants and Daniel Jones disagree on value
The New York Giants and Daniel Jones have been in talks about a long-term deal. Jones reportedly wants nearly $45 million after his best season in 2022, when he led the Giants to the playoffs while throwing 15 touchdowns to five interceptions.
Jones switched agent representation as his camp negotiated with the Giants. According to Dianna Russini with ESPN, the Giants appear more ready to apply the franchise tag to Jones than to pay the quarterback what he’s asking:
“On the New York [Giants] side of this, they are set on a certain number they think Daniel Jones is worth, and that’s nowhere near what Jones’ camp believes.”

The Giants believe keeping Jones is a priority, which could lead to losing other Giants’ weapons. It is thought running back Saquon Barkley will hit free agency if the Giants use the franchise tag on Jones. Because Barkley is asking for a few million dollars more than what the Giants want to pay the star running back, they planned to use the franchise tag on him if they could sign Jones to a long-term deal.
