New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones will be entering his sixth NFL season and it could be his last with the franchise. The Giants could get out of his contract after the 2024 season. Jones was the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Duke.
He has not produced much in five seasons with the New York Giants. What makes his sixth NFL season different than all of the others? It remains to be seen, but the Giants tried to trade for a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Instead, the New York Giants signed Drew Lock to be Daniel Jones’s backup this season. Jones has had serious injuries over the past couple of NFL seasons. That is one concern about this football team entering the 2024 NFL season.
Pro Football Network Ranks New York Giants Quarterback Daniel Jones 27th In Quarterbacks Entering the 2024 Season
Dakota Randall of Pro Football Network ranked 33 quarterbacks on his list entering the 2024 NFL season. It is not a surprise that the Giants quarterback is near the bottom of the list. He is ranked 27th entering the 2024 season.
Two rookies are ahead of him on this list and they are Caleb Willams of the Chicago Bears at 20 and Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders at 26. Randall said about Jones being ranked 27th:
“Jones’ 2023 campaign was wiped out by a torn ACL, but he wasn’t playing well before suffering the injury.
At this point, his impressive performance in 2022 is an outlier. In his four other seasons as New York’s starter, Jones threw 47 touchdowns to go along with 45 interceptions.
Jones’ ability to make plays on his feet is impressive, but the reality is he’s not a great passer. He’ll probably start over Drew Lock, but Jones’ contract is such that New York won’t hesitate to bench him.”
It would be interesting to see if the Giants did bench him at some point this season because of bad play and not by force because of injury. Jones only had 909 passing yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions. He only had five interceptions and 15 touchdown passes in the previous season, which led him to being paid $40 million.
The only quarterbacks that Jones was ranked ahead of on this list are Aidan O’Connell of the Las Vegas Raiders, Jacoby Brissett of the New England Patriots, Will Levis of the Tennessee Titans, Bryce Young of the Carolina Panthers, Sam Darnold of the Minnesota Vikings, and Jarrett Stidham of the Denver Broncos. Jones may not move up this list much, but Jones could fall behind one of these guys if he even does worse this season.
