The 2024 NFL season is just one week old, yet it is becoming evident that there could be big changes for the New York Giants in 2025.
After all, the Giants were embarrassed on their home field in the opener, 28-6, in a contest that saw quarterback Daniel Jones toss two interceptions with one returned for a touchdown by Minnesota Vikings edge rusher Andrew Van-Ginkle.
If this season is supposed to be a referendum on Daniel Jones, and his future as the Giants’ quarterback, it started off in disappointingly predictable fashion for New York.
In the seven games since Jones signed a four-year contract worth $160 million, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft has thrown just two touchdown passes, while former Giants running back Saquon Barkley scored three touchdowns from scrimmage in his Philadelphia Eagles debut Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers.
New York Giants Could Eye Daniel Jones’ Replacement in 2025
There could be sweeping changes this offseason if the Giants don’t quickly turn things around, potentially even including general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll being shown the exit.
Most likely, though, is that whoever is calling the shots in the Giants’ personnel department next spring will be looking to add Jones’ replacement at the top of the 2025 NFL Draft.
That’s the exact scenario that plays out in CBS Sports’ latest mock draft, with the Giants selecting USC quarterback Miller Moss at No. 3 overall.
“Moss lands with another franchise likely (see: moving toward clearly) in need of a quarterback upgrade,” Chris Trapasso writes for CBS. “He has the pocket tools to thrive in the NFL.”
Through two weeks as the Trojans’ starting quarterback, emerging from the shadow of 2024 No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams, moss has completed 72.7 percent of his passes this season for 607 yards with two touchdowns.
If the Giants aim to turn the page from Jones, Moss could be the next quarterback in line to try to get the most out of Malik Nabers and New York”s receiving corps next season.
