The struggling New York Giants decided to make a change at the quarterback position heading into week 12, opting for QB Tommy DeVito instead of longtime QB Daniel Jones.
Jones has led the Giants to a 2-8 record this season and has been at the helm during their current five-game skid. The most recent loss to the Carolina Panthers, led by previously-benched second-year quarterback Bryce Young, was the breaking point for head coach Brian Daboll and the Giants.
New York Giants players aren’t happy with the situation
According to a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Giants star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence still thinks Jones is the best QB on the team. The same report said one anonymous offensive player thinks the organization is using Jones as a scapegoat when there are bigger issues at hand.
Sources: There is “disappointment” among some #Giants players regarding how the Daniel Jones situation was handled over the past week, especially with players aware it was primarily a financial decision by the organization.

In an article on the Giants website, Daboll explained that DeVito was responsible for a spark last year and hopes that he will do the same this time around.
“Those are never easy conversations,” Daboll said. “Got a lot of respect for all three of those guys. After evaluating a bunch of things and looking at a lot of tape and being around Tommy last year where he created a little bit of a spark for us, that’s the reason why we’re going with Tommy. Drew will be the backup. Continue to work with him. He’s been nothing but a pro and as was Daniel. It’s never an easy conversation to have with the players. But felt like this was a necessary move for us and look forward to working with Tommy and getting him ready to go against Tampa.”
DeVito started six games for the Giants in 2023 after the QBs ahead of him suffered injuries. He went 3-3 in those starts winning games against the Washington Commanders, New England Patriots and most notably the Green Bay Packers in primetime.
DeVito threw for 1,101 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions in 2023. His explosion as a social media sensation in 2023 has some fans thinking the organization is starting him again to appease the masses rather than to try to win games.
