Quarterback Daniel Jones and his future with the New York Giants has been a massive point of contention for the fans and coaches alike.
In footage teasing the upcoming “Hard Knocks: Offseason With the New York Giants” episode, New York Giants Head coach Brian Daboll seemed to be prepared for life without Jones.
New York Giants HC Brian Daboll would’ve traded up to draft a rookie QB early in the 1st round of the 2024 NFL Draft
When asked if he would trade up to draft Heisman-winning quarterback and former LSU Tiger Jayden Daniels, Daboll did not hesitate in saying that he would.
In the teaser for next week, #Giants HC Brian Daboll is shown saying he’d be cool with trading up for LSU QB Jayden Daniels.

While drafting Daniels doesn’t mean Daboll would support putting him at the starting spot over Jones immediately, it does mean there is some lack of faith in Jones. Whether that lack of faith lies within Jones’ health issues or ability as a player is unknown.
Jones himself said he expects a lot from his play along with the team’s as a whole in an article from SNY.
“I expect a lot of myself, I expect a lot of the team,” Jones said, “and what’s going on outside that is not necessarily something that is going to drive me.”

Not only did Daboll miss out on a quarterback that he may have thought had potential, but now he will have to face that quarterback twice a year.
Because the Giants or another team did not trade up to take Daniels, the Washington Commanders selected the LSU star with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Daniels will start a new regime with first-year Commanders head coach Dan Quinn. Washington was at the bottom of the NFC East barrel last year with just four wins on the season. The only other NFC East team without a winning record was the Giants.
Daniel Jones signed a massive contract with the New York Giants
Despite a shotty injury history, the Giants and Jones reached a four-year agreement worth $160 million before the 2023 season. Jones’ $40 million per year contract puts him out of the top 10 highest-paid quarterbacks in the league but keeps him atop the vast majority of the league when it comes to salary regardless of position.
Before signing the contract, Jones already had a questionable injury background. He was placed on Injured Reserve and missed six games in 2021 due to a season-ending neck injury against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Then, after signing the contract, Jones injured his neck again in a week five matchup with the Miami Dolphins. He then went on to suffer a season-ending ACL tear just four weeks later against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Regardless of injury, Jones still has a lot to prove as an NFL quarterback. He’s only led the Giants to one winning season. He has also only managed to throw for more than 3,000 yards in a season twice. Neither of those seasons saw him throw for more than 3,250 yards.
Jones has also struggled to put the ball in the endzone through the air. A 24-touchdown rookie season was far and away his most successful when it comes to passing touchdowns. He has failed to throw for more than 15 in any other season.
Although the Giants did pay Jones $160 million, it does not make the organization any better to stick with him if they don’t believe in him. If the Giants and Daboll think he is not someone who can get the job done, the sunk-cost fallacy could cause them to stick with Jones for longer than they would have otherwise.
