The New York Giants’ depth at tight end continues to be a problem since Pro Bowler Darren Waller announced his retirement during the offseason. Theo Johnson took over as the TE1 in his rookie season and currently leads his position on the team in receptions, yards, targets, and snaps. Johnson has 24 receptions on 38 targets for 277 yards and one touchdown. Daniel Bellinger and Chris Manhertz, primarily known as run blockers, combine for four receptions on five targets for 33 yards and one touchdown as the other two tight ends on the depth chart.
The New York Giants TE room will have a difficult matchup on Thanksgiving
The Giants’ tight end room will have a difficult matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving. The last time these two teams met, the Cowboys’ defense limited Theo Johnson to one reception for six yards. Currently, the defense ranks 4th in receptions with 41, 8th in receiving yards with 477, but T-29th in receiving touchdowns allowed, per Pro Football Reference.
Concerned with their depth, they claimed one earlier today.
The New York Giants claimed a receiving TE off waivers
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Giants claimed Greg Dulcich off waivers from the Denver Broncos. Since they claimed Dulcich off waivers, they will inherit the remainder of his rookie contract, and he will be an unrestricted free agent after the conclusion of the 2025-26 season. As Pelissero points out, he will have a chance for a fresh start with a new team.

Things didn’t work out for the Day 2 pick
Greg Dulcich demonstrated his abilities as a pass catcher, hence his 33 receptions on 55 targets for 411 yards and two touchdowns in ten games his rookie season. Unfortunately, Dulcich battled many hamstring injuries and missed 22 out of 34 games in his first two seasons. He ultimately fell out of the rotation in Year 3, being a healthy scratch for the past eight weeks, and the Broncos let him go on Monday as a result.
