The New York Giants are making roster cuts on Tuesday. In the past, they have had former Buffalo Bills players on the roster as well. The Giants have made some improvements to the roster in the offseason and they have yet to improve in other areas.
One of the positions that New York has improved in this offseason is the wide receiver position. There was a lot of uncertainty at the bottom of the Giants’ depth chart at the wide receiver position.
New York Giants Waive Former Buffalo Bills Wide Receiver Isaiah Hodgins
In 2022, the Giants claimed the former Buffalo Bills wide receiver off of waivers. Hodgins made a huge impact on New York in that season. He was a sixth-round pick (207th overall) in the 2020 NFL Draft. Isaiah Hodgins played for the Oregon State Beavers in college.
He appeared in eight games for the New York Giants in 2022 and caught 33 passes for 351 yards receiving and four touchdowns, along with averaging 10.6 yards per catch. Isaiah Hodgins was targeted 42 times.
On Tuesday, according to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, the Giants have waived Hodgins from the roster. This comes as an interesting move because it appeared as if he was going to make the 53-man roster, but New York wanted to go in a different direction with him.
Last season with the New York Giants, he played in 17 games. Isaiah Hodgins caught 21 passes for 230 yards receiving and three touchdowns, along with averaging 11.0 yards per catch. He was targeted 33 times.
Giants Receivers Deeper In 2024 Than Last Season
One of the reasons why the Giants probably got rid of Hodgins is because of the first four wide receivers on the roster. Malik Nabers, Wan’Dale Robinson, Jalin Hyatt, and Darius Slayton are the top four wide receivers on the roster. At best Hodgins would have been the fifth wide receiver, but they don’t feel that way about him.
Isaiah McKenzie will most likely be the fifth wide receiver on the New York Giants this season. Bryce Ford-Wheaton has a chance to make the 53-man roster, depending on what happens by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday. The New York Giants also released Allen Robinson on Tuesday. Isaiah Hodgins could get claimed by another team or go to a practice squad.
