The New York Giants face an uncertain future, but one member of head coach Brian Daboll’s staff could be a hot commodity when the coaching carousel starts spinning this offseason.
While Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen’s future in New York is very much in doubt, and quarterback Daniel Jones has in all likelihood played his final snap in a Giants uniform, one of Daboll’s top lieutenants has been named one of the top head coaching candidates to watch during the 2025 hiring cycle.
According to NFL Media Insider Tom Pelissero, Giants defensive coordinator Shane Bowen is a rising candidate to watch when it comes to head coaching vacancies this offseason.
“Bowen is now in his ninth season as an NFL coach and fourth as a defensive play-caller,” Pelisserro writes. having served as the Titans’ DC for three years before taking the same job with the Giants this past offseason. While New York has stumbled to a 2-8 start and stopping the run has been a problem, one of the NFL’s youngest defenses has also been one of its most effective in key categories such as sacks per pass attempt (ranking first at 13.1%), goal-to-go efficiency (fourth, 57.9%), opponent red-zone TD percentage (tied for fifth, 46.4%) and opponent third-down percentage (sixth, 34.1%). And Bowen is well regarded within the league.”
The Giants’ defense has been wildly in consistent this season, but also been forced to battle through injuries to key players such as pass-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, as well.
Bowen’s strong reputation, though, could get him into interviews and potentially land him a job this upcoming hiring cycle.
