The New York Giants brought in wide receiver Allen Robinson this offseason to try and compete for a spot on the 53-man roster. Earlier in the day, the Giants released Isaiah Hodgins from the team after being with the Buffalo Bills to start his NFL career.
Before giving the Giants a try in training camp, the former Penn State Nittany Lions wide receiver was with four different NFL teams in his NFL career. He was with the Pittsburgh Steelers a season ago.
New York Giants Also Release Wide Receiver Allen Robinson From the Roster
Robinson did not make much of an impression during training camp or the preseason with New York. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, a source told him that the Giants released Allen Robinson from the team on Tuesday.
He only caught three passes for 23 yards receiving and zero touchdowns in preseason action. Robinson was targeted five times and averaged 7.7 yards per reception for the New York Giants. He started his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Robinson was a second-round pick out of Penn State in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
It will be interesting to see what is next for him in his NFL career. Will he retire or try to go to another team? The last good season he had was with the Chicago Bears in 2020 with 1,250 yards receiving. He has not eclipsed over 500 yards receiving in the last three seasons. Robinson is also 31 years old.
Giants Receiver Room Was Improved
The New York Giants wide receiver was improved this year. Rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers is ready to make a name for himself in the NFL during the 2024 season. He was the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of LSU. Nabers is looking to be the latest Tigers wide receiver who make a splash in the NFL.
Jalin Hyatt, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Darius Slayton will also receive playtime for the Giants this season. Isaiah McKenzie could very well be the fifth wide receiver on New York’s roster. With Allen Robinson not making the team, it appears as if his NFL career is coming to an end.
