The New York Giants finalized their initial 53-man roster on Tuesday, trimming their crowded roster of 90 players down to 53. Cornerback stood out during roster cuts since the Giants decided to keep players with limited experience compared to those they released who are older and have more starting experience. For example, of the five cornerbacks they kept, Deonte Banks, a second-year player, has started the most games with 15, while Nick McCloud, a fourth-year player (their most experienced corner), has played the most games with 33.
The three notable players they released include Tre Herndon III (Year 7), who has played 83 games with 34 starts. David Long Jr. (Year 6) has played 66 games with 12 starts. Finally, Darnay Holmes (Year 5) has played 54 games with 11 starts.
The Giants have two starting cornerback positions locked in for the 2024 season. Deonte Banks looks to start on the right side, while rookie Dru Phillips looks to start in the slot. They currently have one starting position vacant.
The New York Giants have a vacancy on the other outside cornerback position
The Giants have a vacancy at the starting outside position on the left side/CB2 job, as neither player has stood out. Cor’Dale Flott, who predominately played in the slot last season, switched to the outside this offseason. He took the early lead, receiving first-team reps at the start of training camp. However, he suffered a quad injury and missed three weeks of practice.
Nick McCloud filled in for Flott, receiving starting reps with the first-team defense. Unfortunately, he hasn’t stood out, and the competition hasn’t been decided. The Giants hoped to find a starting-caliber cornerback in the waiver wire but to no avail. Hoping to fix their issues at cornerback, they and a free agent have a mutual interest in a reunion.
The New York Giants have a visit scheduled with a former starter
According to Jordan Schultz of Schultz_Report, the Giants and Adoree’ Jackson have a mutual interest in a reunion. They will visit with Adoree’ on Friday, including a physical, and negotiations are underway. Jackson spent the last three seasons in New York, playing 37 games with 36 starts. He remained a free agent throughout the offseason.
Sources: The #Giants brought in CB Adoree’ Jackson for a physical today and negotiations are underway on a deal to bring him back. A deal is not done, but the two sides are very interested.

NFL fans react to the possibility of the New York Giants reuniting with Adoree’ Jackson
Why did no one else want him though?

I was most interested in Witherspoon recently and hoped they’d look into him but for months I thought IF Adoree’s in good shape, though not my top choice, they can put him back outside full time (no slot). We’re in desperate need.

Dru Phillips could always take his number 23?

But didn’t Joe Schoen just say in his press conference he felt good about the CB2 situation? 🤔🤭
