The New York Giants will enter the offseason with the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Tennessee Titans will have the number one overall pick and the Cleveland Browns will have the second overall pick. All three of these teams will need to draft a quarterback this offseason.
The thing is that only Shedeur Sanders of Colorado and Cam Ward of Miami are worthy of being selected in the Top 5 of the 2025 NFL Draft. The New York Giants have a lot of decisions to make with its roster this NFL offseason.
Latest CBS Sports Mock Draft Has the New York Giants Selecting Travis Hunter With the Third Overall Pick In the 2025 NFL Draft
Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports created his latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft. He has Tennessee and Cleveland both taking a quarterback in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. With that being the case, Wilson has the New York Giants selecting cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter from the Colorado Buffaloes with the third overall pick in the draft.
It is going to be interesting to see if Travis Hunter will be playing wide receiver or cornerback in the NFL. Ryan Wilson said:
“Travis Hunter is the best athlete — and the best player — in this draft class. We’ve had otherworldly cornerbacks and wide receivers in previous classes, but he’s a twofer, able to dominate on both sides of the ball and take over games. The big question: where will the team that drafts him want him to play? And if it’s, say, at cornerback, how big will be the package of offensive plays for Hunter? Because lining up for 120 snaps a game, like he’s done for the Buffs, isn’t sustainable in the NFL.”
If Travis Hunter does play wide receiver in the NFL, a 1-2 punch of him and Malik Nabers could be very scary. Hunter last season with Colorado caught 96 passes for 1,258 yards, and 15 touchdowns, along with averaging 13.1 yards per catch.
On defense this past season, he recorded 35 tackles, had 11 pass deflections, one forced fumble, and four interceptions. The New York Giants need more help at cornerback than wide receiver at the moment, but drafting Hunter would be a nice consolation prize if they don’t draft a quarterback.
Potential Bridge Options
One potential bridge quarterback option for the New York Giants for 2025 could be former Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields. It is possible that he will not be back with the Pittsburgh Steelers next season. Fields could be a good option for them for one season.
Justin Fields would have better wide receiver options with the Giants than he did with the Bears. Fields may not be the long-term answer but could be a good short-term option for the New York Giants if they drafted Travis Hunter.
