The New York Giants are 2-8 this season and they lost to the Carolina Panthers 20-17 in overtime on Sunday. The Giants appear to have hit rock bottom and it is possible that general manager Joe Schoen may not be the general manager after the season.

This is his third season as the general manager. He was hired after Dave Gettleman made a mess with the roster. However, it appears as if he didn’t make the roster any better.
New York Giants General Manager Joe Schoen Has Made Questionable Signings And Has Had Poor Drafting

One of the biggest issues with Schoen in season three has been his decisions with free agency and the NFL Draft. He decided to double down on quarterback Daniel Jones and that alone should get him fired. Schoen signed Drew Lock in the offseason, but he should have kept Tyrod Taylor, offered the farm for Drake Maye, or signed Russell Wilson.
Schoen also let running back Saquon Barkley walk in the offseason to the Philadelphia Eagles and safety Xavier McKinney to the Green Bay Packers. Barkley and McKinney will both be in the playoffs most likely this season and the New York Giants will not be. Also, Julian Love has thrived with the Seattle Seahawks.
Let’s now get to his poor drafting. He whiffed at Evan Neal with the seventh pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Kayvon Thibodeaux was also the fifth pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and he has been hurt for most of this season who knows if he will earn a second contract. A couple of other whiffs in the 2022 draft were Joshua Ezeudu and Daniel Bellinger. Cor’Dale Flott has been average at best at cornerback.
Schoen may have whiffed on the entire 2023 NFL Draft class. Deonte Banks has massively regressed in his second season and has been benched several times this season at the cornerback position. The only good player in that draft class may be offensive lineman John Michael Schmitz. They also don’t play Jalin Hyatt and Eric Gray appears to be a bust.
The 2024 NFL Draft class has been very good with Tyrone Tracy Jr., Malik Nabers, Tyler Nubin, Andru Phillips, and Theo Johnson, but it may not be enough to save Joe Schoen’s job next season. It is alarming and would the New York Giants fanbase trust Schoen to draft the next potential franchise quarterback of either Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward? Owner John Mara will be the judge of that.
Three Potential Replacements

There is no doubt that if Joe Schoen gets fired as general manager, it will be interesting to see who would want the job. There is a chance that Brandon Brown could be one of the candidates who gets elevated from assistant general manager to general manager. There are a lot of Giants fans who like Brown.
Another candidate for the New York Giants general manager job could be Detroit Lions assistant general manager Ray Agnew. Agnew has helped out executive vice president and general manager Brad Holmes. Detroit is one of the best teams in the league and they have drafted well over the last several seasons.
Another potential candidate to be the Giants’ general manager is the Kansas City Chiefs’ Senior Director Of Player Personnel Mike Bradway. Kansas City has been one of the most successful franchises in the NFL over the last several seasons. He has been with the Chiefs for several seasons and has learned a lot from general manager Brett Veach. The New York Giants could very well start over at head coach and general manager, especially if they finish 2-15 because of poor decisions made by Joe Schoen.
