The New York Giants will have a lot of roster questions entering the 2024 season. The offensive line was the worst in the NFL last season and they also gave up the most sacks in the NFL. They also had discussions to replace quarterback Daniel Jones but were not able to replace him for now.
Instead, the New York Giants signed Drew Lock in the offseason. He was the backup quarterback to Geno Smith on the Seattle Seahawks a season ago. There is a chance that Lock can see the field in 2024 if Jones were to get hurt again or if he got benched.
Tommy DeVito also will compete for a roster spot at the quarterback position this season. There will be some other spots that the roster needs fixing this season. The second cornerback spot on the New York Giants roster will also be a major question mark outside of Deonte Banks. For now, Cor’Dale Flott will be the other starter at the cornerback position.
CBS Sports Thinks That Right Tackle Is the Biggest Weakness For the New York Giants This Season
It is not a secret that right tackle is the weakest position for the New York Giants entering the 2024 NFL season. CBS Sports writer Jared Dubin thinks that right tackle is the biggest issue for the Giants entering the season. He said:
“We know New York has had massive offensive line issues in recent years, and the Evan Neal situation is becoming dire. He could be replaced by Jermaine Eluemunor. “
For now, Jermaine Eluemunor is projected to be the starting left guard and Evan Neal is projected to be the starting right tackle for the New York Giants. General Manager Joe Schoen mentioned on Hard Knocks on Tuesday’s episode that Eluemunor is either going to start at right tackle or left guard this season.
There is probably a reason why they also wanted to sign Robert Hunt. Had they signed Robert Hunt, Hunt would have been left guard and Eluemunor would have been at right tackle. Evan Neal probably would have been riding the bench for the New York Giants and he could still ride the bench.
Injuries and performance have been his biggest issues. He was the seventh overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Alabama. If he doesn’t perform this season, he will be labeled as a major bust. The New York Giants also signed Jon Runyan in the offseason and he played with the Green Bay Packers last season.
If Eluemunor were to start at right tackle for the New York Giants this season, Aaron Stinnie would possibly be the starting left guard for New York. Some still question whether or not the offensive line will be fixed this season. Firing Bobby Johnson in the offseason and bringing in Camren Bricillo from the Las Vegas Raiders should help matters.
