New Wide Receivers Coach for Penn State
The new wide receivers coach for Penn State had a brief history in the NFL. Hagans was only in the league for a couple of years after being drafted by the St. Louis Rams in 2007 the 5th round. He was a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs for a short time as well. He was also very briefly with the Washington Redskins to end the 2009 season. Although Hagans did not have a great experience in the NFL, he has done a good job being a coach.
Following his brief time in the NFL, He headed to Virginia as a Graduate Assistant working with the offense. Hagans spent 11 years working with the Virginia Cavaliers. He spent his time with Virginia as the wide receivers coach, beginning in 2013, according to the Virginia Cavaliers’ website. In the 2022 season, he was also an assistant head coach. Hagans did well with Virginia developing receivers. Despite Virginia ending their season 3-7, the team had a total of 2,210 receiving yards, according to ESPN.
Penn State needed to fire a new wide receivers coach quickly, after releasing Taylor Stubblefield last week. The Penn State Nittany Lions have added two wide receivers last week through the transfer portal. The two players added were, Malik McClain and Dante Cephas. These are two players Hagans will be developing next year.
Penn State has already shown that they have a strong run game, but there is a new quarterback, and this new wide receivers coach for Penn State will need to make sure the players can adjust to that. In the 2022 season, no receiver had over 1,000 yards for the Nittany Lions. According to ESPN, the player who had the most receiving yards was Parker Washington, who has declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. Washington has 611 receiving yards.
The next leading receiver for the Nittany Lions, who will still be on the team next year, is KeAndre Lambert-Smith, who only had 389 yards last season. There is a lot of work for the new wide receivers coach for Penn State.
The New wide receivers coach for Penn State took to Twitter this morning expressing his excitement to work with the Nittany Lions.
