The New Orleans Saints are receiving a visit

The New Orleans Saints are among the many NFL teams that need a quarterback this offseason. Andy Dalton and Jameis Winston aren’t the future of the franchise. A new report Tuesday night shows the Saints are being aggressive in trying to land a top quarterback for the 2023 season.

According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, the Las Vegas Raiders granted permission for Derek Carr to visit the Saints.

Sources: The #Saints invited QB Derek Carr for a visit and the #Raiders have granted permission for that to happen. The plan is for a visit tomorrow. Carr, who has a no-trade clause, is doing due diligence and no trade is imminent. pic.twitter.com/kMSPW2NKaT

Carr, a four-time Pro Bowl quarterback, was benched at the end of last season. The Raiders were dissatisfied with the offense’s performance after they traded for Davante Adams in the offseason and hired head coach Josh McDaniels. Carr received the blame for how the season went from the Raiders organization–fair or not.

Reports came out last week that Carr did not plan to extend his February 15th trigger date on his contract. According to Kevin Petra with the NFL, Carr did not think extending the deadline would be in his best interest:

“Derek Carr has no plans to extend the Feb. 15 deadline in his contract that triggers $40.4 million in future guaranteed money to help facilitate a trade from Las Vegas.

“I don’t think that would be best for me,” Carr said Thursday from the Pro Bowl Games, via the Associated Press.

The Feb. 15 deadline marks the date in which $40.4 million in injury guarantees become fully guaranteed. Having the date a month before the New League Year — and free agency — opens puts the onus on the Raiders to make a decision.”

We’ll see what comes of the visit between Carr and the New Orleans Saints. The Raiders seem eager to expedite the process at present to trade Carr to a team of his choosing before that deadline and the guaranteed cap hits.
