The New Orleans Saints’ chance of making the Super Bowl next year isn’t as strong as other contenders in the NFL. Even if that’s the case, there’s one wild stat the team achieved and it’s one that can boost their dream to make the Super Bowl next year.
The Saints kicked off their 2024 NFL season with a commanding 47-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers at the Caesars Superdome. This win marked the Saints’ sixth consecutive season opener, reinforcing their strong start in the league.
Under the guidance of new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, the Saints showcased a potent offense, scoring on their first nine drives. Quarterback Derek Carr was exceptional, completing 19 of 23 passes for 200 yards and tossing three touchdowns. Star running back Alvin Kamara added 83 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Taysom Hill contributed additional ground support.
The Saints’ defense was equally impressive, forcing three turnovers and sacking Panthers quarterback Bryce Young four times. Alontae Taylor made history by becoming the first Saints defensive back to achieve three sacks in a single game. The unit’s performance included interceptions from safeties Will Harris and Jordan Howden.
Special teams also shined, with kicker Blake Grupe successfully converting four field goals, including a career-long 57-yarder. The team’s dominance was evident throughout the game, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting season ahead.
Insane New Orleans Saints NFL Stat This 2024 Season That Will Boost Super Bowl Dreams
The Saints were able to pull off a feat that got the attention of Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon. In his NFL analysis, he noted that the record New Orleans obtained was last done by the 2009 championship team of the franchise.
Points scored by the New Orleans Saints, the second-most at the two-week mark in modern NFL history (behind only the 2009 Saints, at 93)
And yes, that ’09 team won the Super Bowl.
Sure, the Saints got to tee off on the horrendous Panthers in Week 1, but 47-10 is still a statement and they backed it up by crushing a Super Bowl contender in Dallas on Sunday.
It’s still early and there are some obvious potential concerns with that offensive line, but it’s also entirely possible that Klint Kubiak is the answer for the offense and that Derek Carr can pull a Rich Gannon in reverse after Gannon became a star late in his career with the Raiders.
The Saints are set to host the Philadelphia Eagles, aiming for their first 3-0 start since 2013. They boast an impressive offense, having scored a league-high 91 points in two games. Meanwhile, the Eagles look to rebound from a recent loss and contain the Saints’ dynamic running back, Alvin Kamara, who has five touchdowns this season.
Despite a few injuries, including cornerback Marshon Lattimore and guard Lucas Patrick, the Saints are poised to build on this victory for the coming weeks. With a balanced attack and a strong defensive showing, the Saints look ready to make a significant impact in the 2024 season.
