The New Orleans Saints have parted ways with head coach Dennis Allen, just nine games into the 2024 NFL season.

Allen and the Saints have dramatically underperformed this season, while dealing with injuries to key contributors such as quarterback Derek Carr and wide receiver Chris Olave.
However, Allen’s dismissal comes on the heels of one of the most embarrassing losses in recent franchise history, falling Sunday to the hapless Carolina Panthers despite out-gaining the formerly 1-7 Panthers by 150 yards of total offense and winning the turnover battle in Charlotte.
After starting the season 2-0 with a high-flying offense, Allen’s firing comes with the Saints mired in a seven-game losing streak and seemingly becoming less competitive each week.
Prior to his dismissal on Monday, Allen posted a meager 18-25 record as the Saints’ head coach, but ownership clearly were hoping for more.
“The decision to move on from Allen was spearheaded by owner Gayle Benson,” Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football writes. “According to sources. Benson met with multiple players last week and traded emails with some to find out what has been going on with the team and how they felt about the head coach. Multiple players told her that the program was failing and that changes weren’t just needed but urgent.
“In recent weeks, Benson had grown frustrated with the direction of the team and started to consider the possibility of making a change. She saw how getting back healthy players wasn’t leading to different results. Sunday’s 23-22 loss to the Panthers was the final straw.”

Here’s a sampling of reactions to Dennis Allen’s firing from New Saints fans Monday morning.
Seeing DA fired by the Saints. Should have never been hired. Was the safe hire from Mickey Loomis. Now is the time the Saints sell and get draft picks.

This was the only way the Dennis Allen era was ever going to end. He should have never been hired as the head coach.
