With the unfortunate injury to star linebacker Tj Watt there is a need for depth at the position. Too much speculation on the situation at this time to fully comment on. We will have to wait and see how today unfolds with him seeking additional medical opinions. With that being said there is a new face working out with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Pittsburgh Steelers to workout Ryan Anderson
Anderson was a second round pick by the Washington Commanders in the 2017 draft. He would later be signed by the New York Giants where he was suspended for violating the performance enhancing substance policy and later waived by the team.
Anderson played four seasons there, playing 52 games, 86 tackles, six sacks and 15 quarterback hits. He was a rotational piece to the defense as he only started in 4 games. The Commanders have solid outside linebackers so it is not a surprise he was never awarded the starting job. Not having played significant ball up to this point of his career there is still a lot of unknown but he has the pedigree being drafted in the second round. Overall he should be a upgrade from the alternatives on the practice squad should the Steelers sign him.
Regardless, Watt will be out for a significant amount of time no matter how it all unfolds. The Steelers will need all hands on deck if they want to continue to show dominant pressure like they did last week. It may not look the same missing the DPOY but that does not mean it cannot be effective. The Steelers recognize a glaring weakness and it seems the moves are not done being made by new GM Omar Khan.
