The New England Patriots found their weapon.
Following a two-day visit in Foxboro, dynamic wide receiver Stefon Diggs agreed to terms on a three-year contract worth up to $69 million, as the New England Patriots’ new top of the depth chart wide receiver and perhaps the focal point of a revamped offense around second-year quarterback Drake Maye.
Diggs is coming off a torn ACL that ended his 2024 campaign after just eight games, and has plenty to prove.
How Stefon Diggs Fits New England Patriots’ Offense

Before suffering a season-ending injury, Diggs caught 47 passes for 496 yards and three touchdowns for the Houston Texans last season.
In New England, former Patriots linebacker Matt Chatham believes Diggs might resemble one of the franchise’s most legendary figures at the position.
“It’s not a perfect parallel, but if he’s healthy,” Chatham told me recently. “I think he’ll actually remind fans a bit of what Julian Edelman used to bring to the offense.”
While Maye doesn’t have the pedigree of former Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, the Patriots are betting big on Diggs’ ability to stretch the field, and more importantly, make plays after the catch to elevate the offense and boost the young quarterback’s development.
One current NFL coach suggests there might be an added benefit to adding Diggs into an offense that had previously lacked playmakers.
“He’s going to be a good position flex piece,” an NFL offensive coach tells me, of Diggs, on the condition of anonymity to speak freely about another team. “Josh [McDaniels] will use him a lot in slot and also as single receiver to isolate him for matchups.”
