Trending: The New England Patriots Regret Drafting Drake Maye After Head Coach Jerod Mayo’s Comments About The Young Rookie

The New England Patriots know a lot about what a great quarterback looks like since they had the greatest one of all time, Tom Brady. Now, the second successor to the greatest to ever do it, has some big shoes to fill.

In 2021, the Patriots took quarterback Mac Jones in the first round of the NFL Draft to replace Tom Brady after he was already in Tampa Bay for a year. Jones looked excellent in his first season, helping carry the team to the playoffs. Still, the two seasons that followed were a disaster, and earlier this offseason, he was traded away to the Jacksonville Jaguars, leaving a void at the position in New England.

The New England Patriots took quarterback Drake Maye out of North Carolina with their third overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft. At one time, there was a chance he could rival Caleb Williams as the first quarterback selected. Still, after a shaky 2023 season, he would fall to the third pick, and Williams and LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels would be chosen ahead of him, and now he has all the pressure on him to be the face of the franchise.

A Former NFL Player Thinks The New England Patriots Regert Taking Maye

Former NFL wide receiver Plaxico Burress was on Fox Sports One’s The Carton Show and stated he thinks the Patriots regret taking Drake Maye after head coach Jerod Mayo stated the young quarterback “has a lot to work on.”

This seems to be a hot take since Maye was drafted three weeks ago and has hardly been in the NFL. Sometimes, it takes a while for quarterbacks to adapt to the league, and Maye will need some time, but saying they already regret the pick is going a little overboard.
