The New England Patriots have been struggling since the season began with Jacoby Brissett as the quarterback. According to Julian Edelman, the team’s former wide receiver, there’s a pretty good reason why he’s not getting any production done.
The Patriots suffered a disappointing 30-13 defeat against the San Francisco 49ers, marking their third consecutive loss this season. Brissett faced relentless pressure, getting sacked six times and enduring ten hits throughout the game. His performance was marred by turnovers, including two fumbles and a pick-six, leading to a significant turnover disadvantage of 3-1.
The 49ers dominated the game statistically, racking up 431 total yards compared to the Patriots’ 216. This overwhelming gap highlighted the struggles of New England’s offense, which has now started the season with a 1-3 record for the fourth year in a row.
Brissett’s struggles were compounded by a lack of support from the offensive line, particularly after losing starting center David Andrews early in the game. The Patriots’ inability to protect their quarterback and maintain possession proved costly, as they failed to sustain drives and capitalize on scoring opportunities.
New England Patriots Icon Julian Edelman Reveals Reason Why Jacoby Brissett Isn’t Getting Any Production
With the Patriots winning only one game and losing three, there is a growing concern about Brissett as the team’s quarterback. For his part, Edelman gave a good reason why he’s not doing well, as seen in an article by DJ Siddiqi for Responsible Gambler.
“I think that’s a large reason why Jacoby Brissett is not getting any production,” says Edelman of the Patriots’ offensive line struggles. “He gets on his fifth step and he’s got a guy down his throat now. They’re depleted there and to give a fair assessment for Jacoby, he can’t play his game unless he’s protected.
Why put someone that has absolutely zero experience on how to execute an NFL offense behind something like that? I think they have a lot of things to work on. They have to work on those things and just try to keep improving to get themselves in the best situation they can moving forward.”
Despite the disheartening result, Brissett attempted to rally his teammates, urging them to stay hopeful and focus on improvement. Coach Jerod Mayo acknowledged the need for evaluation moving forward, especially with the Miami Dolphins coming to town next week.
The Patriots will need to address their offensive woes and tighten up their game plan if they hope to turn their season around. As the team prepares for the upcoming matchup, the pressure will be on both Brissett and the coaching staff to find solutions and improve on their dismal performance.
