The New England Patriots overhauled their linebacker position during free agency, adding players who fit Mike Vrabel’s defensive scheme. New England signed Robert Spillane and Jack Gibbens, both of whom spent time with Vrabel in Tennessee, while also matching Las Vegas’ offer sheet for Christian Elliss. Since they have three linebacker spots locked in for 2025, the Patriots have a few players on the chopping block.

The New England Patriots’ 3x captain could be dealt this offseason

Ja’Whaun Bentley had a rough year, suffering a season-ending injury earlier in the year and playing the fewest number of games as a result. He recorded 12 tackles and 0.5 sacks in two starts. Unfortunately, Bentley suffered a season-ending torn pectoral muscle in Week 2.
Since he is coming off a season-ending injury and isn’t the most athletic linebacker, and the Patriots addressed the position in free agency, Bentley was on the chopping block with the possibility of being dealt this offseason.

The former 3x captain wrapped up his tenure with New England, recording 509 tackles, 21 TFLs, 10.5 sacks, two interceptions, 11 pass deflections, and four forced fumbles in 83 regular-season games.

One of the last beacons of hope from the Brady/Belichick era. Two long-time Patriots and team captains in you and David Andrews gone in two weeks. Sad stuff as a Patriots fan. Wish you the best man.
