The New England Patriots’ weakest position on the offensive line throughout the 2024 season is right tackle. Ever since they decided to move Mike Onwenu from right tackle to right guard, the Patriots have had trouble on the right side of the line. Demontrey Jacobs has started nine of 11 games at right tackle but has not performed well this season, surrendering 47 pressures, 32 hurries, seven QB hits, and eight sacks while posting a 38.9 pass blocking and a 36.6 overall PFF grade. Jacobs currently ranks 85th in pressures, 82nd in hurries, 73rd in QB hits, 81st in sacks, 84th in pass blocking, and 85th in overall grade among 85 qualified offensive tackles who have played at least 20% of snaps h/t PFF.
The New England Patriots Day 2 rookie has yet to play since Week 4
Rookie third-round pick Caedan Wallace suffered a significant ankle injury in Week 4 against the San Francisco 49ers. As a result, the Patriots placed him on injured reserve ahead of Week 5, and he has missed 12 weeks and 11 games. The Patriots opened Wallace’s practice window on Monday, December 9, but he did not play in Weeks 15 and 16.

The Patriots announced massive news
On X, the New England Patriots announced they activated Caedan Wallace off injured reserve just in time for Week 17. It’s unclear whether he will make his return to the starting lineup at right tackle against the Los Angeles Chargers. Saturday would be a great opportunity for Wallace to prove his worth as a starting right tackle in this league and potentially audition as the starter of the future at his natural position.

The Day 2 draft pick is excited about returning to the football field
“Really excited,” Wallace said of returning to the practice field, via Chris Mason of MassLive.com. “It’s been a long journey. Glad I can come back and get back after it again. I definitely wanted to come back and I was optimistic I could come back but I knew I had to put in a lot of work. I really focused on my treatment and my recovery these past few weeks and I’m ready to go.”
