The New England Patriots May Be In Talks With The San Francisco 49ers For Massive Trade
According to NFL Analyst Cam Marino:
SCOOP: The Patriots and Browns are the front runners in trade discussions for 49ers star receiver Brandon Aiyuk, per a league source.
Both teams are offering more than $30M. Though the Steelers are also in the mix, this should come down to the Patriots and the Browns. Aiyuk is not expected to be a 49er in 2024.
Despite 49ers management’s hope that Williams and Aiyuk’s absences would barely be noticed, and maybe give the team an edge in negotiations, the exact opposite is happening. Williams and Aiyuk are currently winning the public eye and almost certainly the negotiation tug-of-war. They are essential to the 49ers.
This raises questions about the 49ers’ strategy of pushing these talks to the breaking point, but that’s for another column.In practice, the 49ers have a lot of talented players, but they’re being overshadowed by players who aren’t out there.
This has caused many teams to reach out to acquire for Aiyuk. Could the Patriots actually pull the trigger?
