Sunday proved to be another tough day for the New England Patriots, as they dropped their Week 9 game against the Washington Commanders 20-17, knocking them down to a 2-7 record on the season.
So what does this home-field defeat mean for Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots?
Belichick appeared on WEEI on Monday morning and was asked if the 2-7 start to the season makes it one of the most frustrating years of his coaching career thus far. Belichick responded that it is “probably up there”.
At a press conference on Monday, a reporter raised the question: has Belichick received any assurances from the Patriots organization about his future in New England? He dismissed the inquiry, stating that his focus is on getting ready for the Colts. “I’m going to control what I can control and get ready for the Colts,” he said.

Although Belichick has led the team to six Super Bowl championships, he is not absolved from this team’s failure of a season. The team is lacking talent as well as depth to their roster. This season may very well be the fall of Belichick’s empire that he has built in New England.
New England will travel to Germany to play against the Colts on Sunday, and this will be followed by their Week 11 bye. In Week 12, the team will face the New York Giants and will host the Los Angeles Chargers in the following week.
