The New England Patriots are currently 3-8, and many fans are already looking forward to the 2025 NFL Draft. New England will most likely have a decent draft pick if they continue to lose games, and if that’s the case, who should be their main target? There are quite a few factors to consider, starting with Free Agency. If the Patriots sign a top receiver such as Tee Higgins, then maybe they are more likely to consider one of the top tackle options in the Draft. Regardless of their strategy, the main goal needs to be getting talented football players to Foxborough, and one of the best ways to do that is to hit on draft picks. So who could be some of the top names to watch out for?
Travis Hunter: WR/CB Colorado
If the Patriots are in the business of getting good football players on their roster, then the best football player in the entire draft could be very interesting. Colorado’s Travis Hunter is an elite player on both sides of the ball. He is a lockdown corner on defense, and a game changing weapon on offense. New England already has a lockdown corner in Christian Gonzalez, but the pairing of Hunter and Gonzalez could be very fun to watch. Being able to have two elite corners on the field, could cause nightmares for opposing offenses. Not to mention there could be specific offensive packages where Hunter comes on the field at receiver, creating a more dynamic offense for certain situations. Hunter could be the game changer that New England has needed for a while now, and would add so much talent to both sides of the ball.
Will Campbell: Offensive Tackle LSU
When people think 2024 Patriots, they think Drake Maye, and bad offensive line. With an upcoming star quarterback, protecting him needs to be the number one priority. And what better way to do it, then to select an freak athlete at left tackle. Will Campbell is one of the best pass protectors in the country, and pairing him with Drake Maye for the next few years sits pretty well with New England fans everywhere. He has great size and quickness, and has the ability to lock down Maye’s blind side for the foreseeable future. If Campbell is available where the Patriots are picking, they may not hesitate to bring the LSU Tiger to Foxborough.
Tetairoa McMillan: WR Arizona
Tetairoa McMillan is easily the 2025 NFL Draft’s wide receiver one. At six-foot-five inches, McMillan has incredible size, and he doesn’t lack in speed in athleticism. When turning on his Arizona film, it is clear to see that he dominates opposing corners. It is near impossible to cover him in the red zone with his size and contested catch ability. By bringing him to New England, the front office would give Drake Maye an immediate number one weapon that opposing teams would have to account for. McMillan is a very exciting prospect, and somebody Patriots fans should keep an eye on moving forward.
How important is the 2025 NFL Draft for the Patriots?
This upcoming draft could make or break the careers of Head coach Jerod Mayo and Vice President of Player Personnel, Eliot Wolf. New England has their quarterback of the future, so now is the time to build the roster. Maye is on a rookie deal, so Wolf needs to spend big in Free Agency, as well as hit on his 2025 Draft picks. If Wolf hits a couple home runs when the Draft finally rolls around, fans could see a much improved team, and potentially even a team that could create some havoc in the Wildcard.
