The New England Patriots are in desperate need of more talent on their roster. However, it looks like they already have the most important piece of the puzzle in Drake Maye at quarterback. Maye has put the league on notice, that he could become an MVP type of player some day, and that is huge when it comes to attracting free agents to Foxborough. The Patriots now have hope for the future with their franchise quarterback, and they also have the most cap space in the NFL heading into 2025. In Free Agency, money talks. Luckily for New England fans, it’s starting to look like the Patriots may go on a spending spree once Free Agency officially starts. So who are some names to keep an eye on for the Foxborough Faithful?
Tee Higgins: Wide Receiver
Tee Higgins is a player that has been linked to the Patriots over the last couple of off-seasons. Higgins was franchise tagged in 2024, but all signs point to him walking away from the Bengals chasing a long term deal. New England desperately needs a wide receiver one that Drake Maye can count on, and they rarely become available via Free Agency. However, Cincinnati has to pay Ja’Marr Chase this off-season and likely won’t be willing to pay Higgins top of the market money. New England is a destination that does have the resources to get Higgins to Foxborough. They could easily pay Higgins whatever he is asking for in a new deal, and give their offense a spectacular boost that it’s needed for the past five seasons.
Dre Greenlaw: Linebacker
Greenlaw hasn’t played yet this season due to an achilles tear during the Super Bowl last season. Regardless of his injury, Greenlaw has shown throughout his career that he is a top linebacker in the league. With the Patriots lack of defense this season, they should be willing to pay huge money for a big time player like Greenlaw. Adding in an elite linebacker to play alongside Ja’Whaun Bentley when he returns from injury could immediately turn around this defense. Greenlaw would also add great leadership and a spark to the team. He is an incredible competitor and brings a great energy to the defense.
Trey Smith: Guard
Trey Smith is an elite offensive lineman, and he will command big time money when March rolls around. If the Chiefs don’t resign him to a deal, then the Patriots should definitely be interested. To say New England needs help on the offensive line is an understatement. Signing Smith to lock down one of the guard spots alongside Mike Onwenu would be huge. It would also allow the front office to fully focus on securing an offensive tackle or two in the 2025 NFL Draft. Adding Smith would create an immediate boost to one of the worst offensive lines in football.
Cam Robinson: Offensive Tackle
Cam Robinson could be another name to look out for. Robinson was traded to the Minnesota Vikings after starting left tackle Christian Darrisaw lost his season to injury. Which means the Vikings most likely won’t be signing Robinson to a long term deal once Darrisaw returns. Meaning the Patriots could acquire a starting caliber left tackle, and give a huge boost to the tackle room altogether. This could be a very underrated signing if Robinson is able to become the starting left tackle for the next couple seasons while protecting your franchise quarterback.
