“Never Thought We Would See A Bigger Fumble Than the Butt Fumble”: Fans Rip Apart Mark Sanchez After Fox Analyst Gets Stabbed and Arrested in Indianapolis

Mark Sanchez built a broadcasting career after his playing days ended. The former Jets quarterback turned Fox Sports analyst carved out a solid niche calling NFL games alongside Adam Amin. Saturday morning in downtown Indianapolis changed everything.

Sanchez was scheduled to call Sunday’s Colts-Raiders matchup at Lucas Oil Stadium. Instead, he’s recovering in a hospital bed while facing three misdemeanor charges. Fox Sports scrambled to find a replacement broadcaster with less than 24 hours until kickoff.

The incident went down early Saturday morning in downtown Indianapolis, where Sanchez was arrested and charged with battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. All three charges are misdemeanors, but the circumstances surrounding the arrest paint a messy picture.

The altercation happened near Loughmiller’s Pub and Eatery, where Sanchez was reportedly stabbed in the chest. He needed surgery and was first listed in critical condition before doctors stabilized him.

The former USC star was not only a victim in the fight, as Indianapolis police also arrested him for his part in what happened that night.

Fox Sports released a statement acknowledging the “horrifying” situation but offered few details about Sanchez’s future with the network.

The timing couldn’t be worse for the 38-year-old analyst who spent 10 seasons in the NFL before transitioning to the broadcast booth in 2020.

Fox acted fast to replace Sanchez and brought in Brady Quinn to work with play-by-play announcer Chris Myers for Sunday’s broadcast. Quinn usually appears on Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff college football pregame show but got the emergency call to move into an NFL booth. The former Notre Dame quarterback and first-round pick brings pro experience from his time with Cleveland, Denver, Kansas City, and Seattle.

Fox wasted no time moving on and swapped Sanchez for Brady Quinn in the booth. The fast change only added fuel to fans’ cold reactions after the arrest details came out.

NFL Fans Show Zero Sympathy for Mark Sanchez After Arrest Details Emerge

Social media went nuclear once fans learned Sanchez wasn’t just a victim. One fan wrote, “Insane plot twist for sure.”

Another added, “Never thought we would see a bigger fumble than the butt fumble but he did it. Say goodbye to your entire career and public life.” The reference to Sanchez’s infamous 2012 Thanksgiving Day blunder hit different given the circumstances.

A third pointed out something suspicious, noting, “How can the so called victim not be a local resident but is delivering food? This seems very suspicious.” Details about the other person involved remain murky, but fans aren’t buying the narrative that Sanchez was an innocent bystander.

The most brutal take came from someone observing, “Nothing good happens after midnight when you’re drunk.” The public intoxication charge supports that assessment, and the unlawful entry of a motor vehicle charge suggests things escalated beyond a simple bar fight.

Sanchez was in Indianapolis to cover the Colts’ Week 5 home game against the Raiders. Instead of spending Saturday on game notes, he was in surgery.

His future with Fox Sports is now in doubt as the legal process moves forward and more details about the altercation emerge.
