Legendary Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Tom Osborne has become the focus of many Nebraska fans, but it is not for what he did as their head coach.
Osborne is once again taking a stance against gambling in the state of Nebraska.
Legendary Nebraska Cornhuskers HC Tom Osborne is anti-gambling
In what is not his first effort to do so, Osborne is voicing his opposition to the potential introduction of gambling, specifically online sports betting, into the state of Nebraska.
Osborne is a large part of the reason that residents of Nebraska would often cross the Missouri River into Iowa to gamble, giving away millions in tax dollars each year.
Osborne said in an article from KETV that the introduction of online sports betting will hurt young people and end up costing the state more.
“I see this being very dangerous, particularly for young people,” said Osborne.
“I can guarantee you there will be increased addiction and increased costs,” Osborne said.
Two constitutional amendments would allow voters to make their decision on the issue in the November election and Osborne is opposing both of them. Osborne is at odds with Republican Governor Jim Pillen, who thinks the voters should decide on the issue.
Many Nebraska Cornhuskers fans are upset with Tom Osborne
Osborne is often treated like royalty in Nebraska for what he did for the football program. He brought three national championships to Nebraska in just four years. He created what many consider to be the most dominant college football team of all time, the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Despite two decades of greatness, fans are still upset with Osborne for what he has done in the political sector. Many claim Osborne should stay in his lane while others say he is simply too old to be involving himself in modern issues.
Regardless, a man who is consistently treated like royalty is now the subject of a myriad of online insults.
He would s**t his pants if he ever realized how much illegal betting was done on his football teams back in the day. People made and lost tons of money through illegal bookies.
