The Atlanta Falcons are adding depth to their quarterback room this week after sending a backup quarterback to the Los Angeles Chargers last week. The Falcons have quarterbacks veteran (and team captain) Kirk Cousins and rookie Michael Penix Jr. on their 53-man roster before Week 1.
The Atlanta Falcons traded Taylor Heineke last week
Last week, the Falcons traded Taylor Heineke to the Chargers for a conditional sixth-round pick. The trade came months after new head coach Raheem Morris criticized Heineke for his play last season.
Following the trade, the Falcons needed help at quarterback for their practice squad.
Nathan Peterman signed with the Falcons
Per Terrin Waack with the Falcons, the team signed Nathan Peterman to the practice squad. Peterman spent the previous two seasons with the Chicago Bears.
Peterman had a brief stint with his former offensive coordinator, Luke Getsy, with the Las Vegas Raiders in training camp in August. However, the Raiders cut him following training camp, opting to keep Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell.
At 30, Peterman has appeared in 15 NFL games and started in five. He’s 1-4 as a starter. He’s 85/160 passing for four touchdowns and 13 interceptions in his NFL career.
