The Nagurski trophy goes to the best defensive player in college football every year. According to Sam Murphy at Yahoo! Sports, there are four Alabama players hanging out on the watchlist. Let’s talk about who they are and who I think will take the Nagurski Trophy home.
- Will Anderson Jr.
- Won Nagurski in 2021
- Unanimous first-team All-American 2021
- SEC Defensive Player of the Year 2021
- Eli Ricks
- First season with Alabama 2022
- Third-team All-American with LSU 2020
- Jordan Battle
- Stayed with Alabama for his senior year 2022
- Earned second-team All-American honors from the AFCA 2021
- First-team All-American by Pro Football Focus
- Henry To’oTo’o
- All-SEC second-team honors from the conference coaches 2021
- Led Alabama in tackles 2021
- 4th season in SEC
Who Will Win?
I have to go with Will Anderson Jr. Why? Because he’s simply a BEAST. I won’t be surprised at all if he wins for the second time in a row, mainly because of his drive. Will Anderson Jr. led the country in 2021 for sacks and tackles for loss, while still wanting to accomplish more. Between this drive, his outstanding skill set, and ability to perform, Will Anderson Jr. is going to win even more than the Nagurski Trophy. This is also my claim that he will win the Heisman Trophy too. Meet me back here after the award is given out to either say, “you were right” or to talk junk.
