Now, that means that Mayfield will be facing his former team, the Cleveland Browns. It will be the first time playing them since being traded to the Panthers.
Are the Browns Looking Forward to Playing Against Baker Mayfield?
With Baker playing the Browns for the first time, fans are wondering if the Browns’ defense is looking forward to playing against him. The only player that would really answer that question was Myles Garrett. But, he just said he’s looking to play as well as he can.
“He’s my former teammate. But, there’s no rivalry between me and him and there’s no rivalry between the Panthers and the Browns. Yes, he was here, but that doesn’t mean I have an added sense of urgency to get to him. I want to play my best and whatever’s in the cards, that’s it for me. If I can help my team win. If I can put them in the best position to win, I’m going to do that and if I can get a couple sacks along the way, I would kind of enjoy that too.”
But for Mayfield, it seemed as if he had a very honest answer on if he was looking forward to playing the Browns back in July.
“I’m not going to sit here and be a robot and tell you that’s not one I’ve marked on the calendar already. One, that’s not who I am. To me, it’s about winning games. Whoever we have marked on the schedule, I’m going to try to win. Obviously, this one has a little more history and personal meaning, but for me, it’s about winning and setting the tone for the rest of the year, and however I can help this team do that, I’m going to do.”
Garrett has said before he’s not really thinking about playing against Mayfield. But, we all know it will be in the back of his mind when week one comes around.
