Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett has been on the news for the last few weeks, and it has nothing to do with how great of a player he is.
Before the Browns’ Week 16 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, the 29-year-old pass rusher remarked about the team’s direction and expressed his desire to meet with the organization to learn their plans for winning next season.
Myles Garrett Doesn’t Want To Rebuild
“I’m not trying to rebuild,” Garrett said, per ESPN. “I’m trying to win right now. And I want that to be apparent when the season is over and we have those discussions. I want them to be able to illuminate, illustrate that for me so that can be something I can see in the near future. Because that’s all we want to do.
“I want to stay loyal to a team that showed loyalty to me and faith in me by drafting me. But we have to do, at the end of the day, what’s best for us. So, if we have that alignment where this is something that is still possible in the near future — winning, going deep in the playoffs, putting a great defense out there … I think that would really keep my mind at rest and keep me settled.”
Myles Garrett will be entering his ninth NFL season and has no time to be around for a rebuild, and winning right now seems to be one of the most important things for him.
Cleveland just finished their season with a 3-14 record and sits with the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft, and that selection could be the move that brings the Browns back to their winning ways, or it could send Garrett packing.
The Browns will decide significantly about their veteran pass rusher this offseason. If they choose to trade him, Cleveland fans can prepare for a total rebuild like the one they saw between 2016 and 2017, when they went 1-31.
Cleveland just ended their season on Saturday, losing to the Baltimore Ravens 35-10, and while Garrett didn’t end up in the sack column, he still significantly impacted one Ravens player’s life.
Garrett Gives A Ravens Player A Special Moment
On Tuesday night In Season with the AFC North, a video clip from the game between Garrett and Ravens rookie offensive lineman Roger Rosengarten was shown on the HBO television series.
Rosengarten was selected in the second round (62 overall) out of Washington this past April. Playing against one of the most extraordinary defensive ends in NFL history must be humbling as a rookie, but Rosengarten asked Garrett for a special request.
The video clip showed Rosengarten and Garrett walking down the field during a play. The rookie offensive lineman approached the Brown’s pass rusher and asked him, “I know I’m a nobody… but could I get that jersey after?”
Garrett responded quickly, “Hey man, you’re in the league…yall are winning games… you’re never a nobody.”

Football can be rough and competitive, with everyone wanting to go after each other. Still, this moment between Rosengarten and Garrett shows why the NFL is the most unique professional sports league.
Hopefully, there will be more great AFC North battles between Rosengarten and Garrett over the next few seasons, and it will be a treat to watch the two continue to compete against each other.
