The Minnesota Vikings sign a running back

The Minnesota Vikings have made a few intriguing signings during free agency this offseason. The Vikings are bringing in a top pass rusher in Marcus Davenport. They also made sure to keep backup quarterback Nick Mullens for the 2023 season. Now they’re fortifying the backfield by re-signing a veteran running back.

According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the Vikings are signing Alexander Mattison to a two-year contract. Mattison is set to make $7 million, but he can make as much as $8 million. $6.35 million is guaranteed in Mattison’s contract.

Mattison is a former third-round selection by the Vikings in 2019. Mattison has run for 1,670 yards and 11 touchdowns during his time with the Vikings. He ran for 283 yards and five touchdowns last season. Mattison has served as a valuable backup to running back Dalvin Cook. The Vikings could look to trade Cook this offseason.
