The Minnesota Vikings have had several unfortunate events happen to them today. One of those events was promising WR Jordan Addison getting hurt during today’s practice. According to McQuade Arnold of Gridiron Heroics, he was carted off with an apparent leg injury.
Since then, we have received an update on Addison’s status from Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell. What did he say about the situation? Read below to find out.
Kevin O’Connell Claims Jordan Addison’s Injury Is Not Serious
According to Matthew Coller of Purple Insider, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell revealed that Jordan Addison’s injury does not appear to be serious. Here is O’Connell’s exact quote on the subject:
“I think he’s going to be ok.” -Kevin O’Connell
Jordan Addison had a phenomenal rookie season last year. So, what did he do for the Minnesota Vikings? He had 10 touchdown receptions along with 911 receiving yards.
More Bad Luck for Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings cannot seem to catch a break. Jordan Addison’s injury was arguably not even the biggest of the day for the Vikings. That is because, earlier today, it was confirmed that rookie QB J.J. McCarthy would miss the entire 2024 season due to a torn meniscus injury. As a result, Sam Darnold is expected to be the starting quarterback for a certain number of games.
Bad luck for the Vikings arguably goes back to last season as well. Why is this? Because Minnesota dealt with significant injuries back then as well.
For starters, veteran QB Kirk Cousins was lost for the season due to a torn Achilles injury. If that was not enough, star WR Justin Jefferson missed a good portion of the 2023 season due to a hamstring injury. Now, it appears that the heartbreaking injuries are carrying over to this season for the Vikings.
Minnesota Vikings Moving Forward
You can argue that Justin Jefferson’s injury allowed for Jordan Addison to break out last season. Now, Minnesota was hoping to have both of these wide receivers on the field together with a promising young quarterback. Unfortunately, that is just not going to happen.
If that was not enough, the Vikings are arguably in the toughest division in football this season (the NFC North). The Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions made the playoffs last season. Plus, the Chicago Bears drafted skillful offensive players such as QB Caleb Williams and WR Rome Odunze. This will certainly be an uphill battle for the Vikings in their current situation.
