Alabama football fans are thankful Mike Norvell chose to stay at Florida State following the Seminole’s 24-21 loss to Georgia Tech on Saturday. Alabama hired former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer after Nick Saban retired following the Rose Bowl loss to Michigan.
Mike Norvell chose to stay at Florida State
Per an ESPN report, Norvell turned down the Alabama head coaching job in January. Norvell said he chose to remain at FSU because it was the right fit:
“You respect the place, you respect the position. At the end of the day, it still comes down to the right fit. It still comes down to the place where you want to be, and what puts you in a position that you can pour everything you have into it.
“We’ve been able to do that over the last four years here at Florida State. There’s a lot of excitement around our program. I’m just excited to continue to build upon the foundation that’s been laid.”
Norvell and the Seminoles won the ACC Championship last season. They would have made the College Football Playoff if quarterback Jordan Travis had not gone down with an injury in November against Northern Alabama. Despite FSU’s 63-3 loss to Georgia in the Orange Bowl, Norvell was still one of Alabama’s top choices to replace Saban.
Norvell might be regretting his decision to stay in Tallahassee. On Saturday, FSU suffered a second-consecutive loss. FSU played most of the game uninspired on Saturday. Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei doesn’t look like he can make FSU a playoff contender this year.
If Norvell had jumped for Alabama, he would have inherited quarterback Jalen Milroe, one of the most exciting players in college football this year. Norvell would have had a legitimate chance to compete for a national championship.
Alabama football fans are happy Norvell stayed at FSU
Alabama fans reacted to FSU’s loss on social media. Most fans are relieved Norvell chose to stay at FSU. They think Norvell might have been a lousy hire based on FSU’s lethargic play against Georgia Tech in Ireland.
