Florida State football has fallen hard since quarterback Jordan Travis suffered an injury against North Alabama last year. The injury knocked the Seminoles out of contention for the College Football Playoff. Following a win in the ACC Championship Game, head coach Mike Norvell and Co. were blown out 63-3 by Georgia in the Orange Bowl.
The Seminoles came into the 2024 season ranked in the Top 10. They were upset last week by Georgia Tech in Ireland. On Monday night, Boston College sucked whatever air was left in Norvell’s balloon as the Eagles left Tallahassee with a 28-13 win in Bill O’Brien’s inaugural game as the head coach of the program.
Mike Norvell is “sick” after FSU’s loss to Boston College

Per Andrea Adelson with ESPN, Norvell said after the game Monday night that he was “sick” with how the season has started. He called his preparation for the season a failure, but said the Seminoles can accomplish good things this season:
“You’ve got a football team that nobody envisioned ever being where we are and having disappointment, having failure, but I do believe in what this team can do,” Norvell said. “I believe in what this team can accomplish.
“There’s going to be plenty of negativity around this program. I understand that. When we perform the way we just did, that’s all part of it. But for our football team, you’ve got to stay together, and you’ve got to make sure that you’re there for each other.
We’ve been knocked down. We know how to get up, but we’ve got to go do that. It’s one thing to talk about it. It’s another thing to put into action and then to be able to perform in the moment.”
Norvell couldn’t articulate why FSU wasn’t prepared against Boston College on Monday night. Traveling to and from Ireland isn’t an easy feat. But Notre Dame was able to take care of business in Ireland and their turnaround game last year.
Florida State football is doing too much?

Norvell thought FSU might have tried to “do too much,” to get a win on Monday night after their frustrating start to the season last week:
“When things don’t go how you want them to go — a disappointing outcome in our first game — and obviously today it was all the things that can go wrong basically did,” Norvell said.
“I don’t know if that’s a carryover from any part of it other than starting to press, starting to try to do too much, where you want it so bad that there’s times where you almost abandon the training that you’ve had because you just start pressing and trying to do almost too much.
FSU has questions about their quarterback play

Norvell isn’t the only FSU figure to come under fire for the 0-2 start. Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei had another bad game. He went 21/42 passing for 272 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He was inaccurate on several attempts, although FSU receivers did drop some passes that were perfectly on target.
FSU came into Monday night’s game ranked No. 10. They might drop out of the Top 25 after the 0-2 start to the season. FSU will be off this weekend. Their next game will come against Memphis on Sept. 14.
