The coaching carousel is adding names quickly as the college football season enters mid-November. One coach was fired on Saturday following back-to-back losses.
Several high-profile coaches are on the hot seat with a few weeks to go in the regular season. However, most major programs have waited to fire coaches in the 2024-25 cycle.
College football program fires coach
Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Ball State is firing Mike Neu after a 3-7 start to 2024.
“Ball State has fired coach Mike Neu, as the Cardinals are 3-7 and Neu has gone 40-63 in nine seasons there,” Thamel posted on X. “Neu won the MAC title in 2020, which was his only winning season there. He led Ball State to a pair of bowl games in his tenure.”

Mike Neu played quarterback for Ball State in the 90s
Neu, a native of Indianapolis, played quarterback for Ball State from 1990-93. He took over the Cardinals head coaching job before the 2016 season. Neu recorded a 40-63 overall record (25-43 in MAC play) during his nine seasons with Ball State.
Neu’s best season with the Cardinals came in 2020 when Ball State finished with a 7-1 record. The Cardinals would defeat Arizona 34-13 in the Offerpad Arizona Bowl and finished the season ranked No. 23 in the final AP poll.
Ball State had three consecutive losing seasons entering 2024. The Cardinals lost to Buffalo 51-48 at UB Stadium on Tuesday, the second straight loss for the program.
Ball State has two more games remaining in the regular season. They will play Bowling Green and Ohio.
